Refrigeration dryers in general mainly consist of two heat exchangers and a controlled refrigerant circuit. In the first heat exchanger, the air/air heat exchanger, the incoming compressed air flow is pre-cooled by the outgoing compressed air flow, which is already cooled down to the dew-point temperature. In the second heat exchanger, the refrigerant/air heat exchanger, which is cooled by the refrigerant circuit, the compressed air is cooled down to its minimum temperature (dew-point temperature). During the entire cooling process the moisture within the compressed air condenses and creates condensate, which is collected centrally and discharged automatically. Finally, the compressed air is heated and thus sub-saturated in the air/air heat exchanger by the warm incoming compressed air. As long as the compressed air temperature does not decrease below the pressure dew-point, no further condensate can be generated.

To prevent the dryer from freezing when being operated at partial load, the cooling capacity generated by the refrigerant circuit needs to be controlled. For the DFX series a hot gas bypass controller is used for controlling. For the DFE series an electronic processor controls the generated cooling capacity. In conjunction with a cold accumulator the refrigerant circuit is switched on and off resulting in considerable energy savings during partial load periods up to 90%.

The core part of FST refrigeration dryers is the fully integrated plate heat exchanger, incorporating both the air/air heat exchanger and refrigerant/air heat exchanger in one compact, leak-free unit. The integration of all thermal transfer processes of refrigeration dryer in just one thermal insulated unit offers a high efficiency drying process and energy saving operation due to the minimal thermal losses while reducing the differential pressure at the same time. Therefore FST refrigeration dryers offer

• Maximum operational reliability
• Minimum total operating costs
-energy efficient, low-loss thermal transfer processes
-low differential pressure
• Rugged design and long life
• Easy maintenance
All refrigeration dryers are provided as standard with a main switch, electronic level controlled condensate drain and microprocessor control unit, offering a pressure dew-point indication, operating indicator lights, adjustable pressure dew-point alarm and potential free alarm contact.
FST offers a comprehensive product portfolio for refrigeration dryers for every range of volume flow.
